A Day in the Life....

When I meet twin parents, I always ask "How did you survive?". All of them have responded "I have no idea, you just do what needs to be done". So, I decided to document a day in our life, so later we will know how we survived! Since I am not quite sure when to start our day, I decided to start with Monday evening. Now, I wish I would have taken a million pictures to accompany my day, but of course I didn't think about that until after the fact. Go figure.

4:00 PM - Owen and Olivia Bottles (Babysitter Sarah is here to help). Sarah is staying late because both babies have been ridiculously fussy all afternoon.
4:00 PM - Justin calls to say he has to go to Columbia for work and will be home late tonight.
4:30 PM - Freak out about Olivia's weird poop. Google it. Call pediatrician
5:00 PM - Sarah leaves, both babies quiet until she walks out the door. Then both babies start crying. Olivia eats the rest of her bottle and calms down. Owen stays cranky.
6:00 PM - Papa Russ arrives with dinner and picks up Olivia. She just wants to cuddle and falls asleep on his shoulder. I hold Owen and eventually get him calmed down as well.
6:45 PM - Both babies awake and playing. I try to get Olivia to turn her head to the left, since she always turns to the right and we don't want a flat headed baby. But, she always finds something to focus on to the right. This time, it's the Royals game.
7:30 PM - Both babies get diapers changed and PJs on
8:00 PM - Owen and Olivia Bottles (Papa Russ feeds Olivia, I feed Owen). Actually, a fairly smooth feeding.
8:45 PM - Olivia falls asleep on the floor on her tummy. Papa Russ goes home to take care of sick Mimi.
9:00 PM - I make up a bed on the couch and hold Owen - who is moaning and groaning. Gripe water seems to help.
10:15 PM - Owen and I fall asleep (at some point I put Owen on the floor)
12:30 AM - Both babies start to wake (4 1/2 hours since feeding - yay!). I change and feed Owen.
1:00 AM - Justin gets home and changes and feeds Olivia
1:00 AM - Owen goes to bed; I go to bed
1:30 AM - Olivia goes to bed
2:00 AM - Justin goes to bed
4:15 AM - I wake up and feed Owen. We both fall asleep sitting on the couch.
5:00 AM - Lindsay and Owen back to bed
5:00 AM - Justin up to feed Olivia
6:00 AM - Justin back to bed
6:00 AM - Lindsay's alarm goes off. Both babies are crying.
6:50 AM - Lindsay arrives at work

.....Justin takes over narration....wow our day sounds very boring so far.....

7:00 AM Olivia gets really cranky, tummy time upstairs helps a little.
7:30 AM Owen is cranky, comes upstairs for tummy time.
7:40-7:50-8:00 AM Binkies continue to fall out, causing screaming contest during upstairs tummy time, Justin sleeps for about 4 seconds between cries.
8:30 AM - Owen eats, has obvious tummy ache
9:00 AM - Owen finally calms down - Olivia begins to eat.
9:10 AM Olivia spits up everywhere, mostly on Justin, some gets on the couch.
9:20 AM Olivia is done eating, burps, goes to tummy time with just a little resistance

....Apparently this is what people mean when they say they can't remember. Maybe Justin can fill in these hours!
.....Lindsay again.....

2:15 PM - Get the babies dressed. Each one cries while the other gets changed and dressed
2:25 PM - Go for a walk in the jogging stroller. I finally raised the seat backs up so they aren't reclined. I think they liked that. Olivia cried for a few blocks, but I gave her a binkie and she enjoyed the rest of the walk.
2:50 - Nap time for all 3 of us! Amazing!
3:30 - Angry babies. Enough said.
4:15 - Feed Owen
4:45 - Feed Olivia
5:00 - I manage to get both babies in my arms and we cuddle for a bit. Other than Owen hitting Olivia a few times, both babies calm down and get drowsy
5:15 - Pack up the diaper bag, get the babies in their car seats and head to dinner with Kelsey, Justin, Lola, Jenny, Kevin, Jon, Judy, Karri, Jane, Amanda, Baby Avery, Amy, and Baby Connor. Hope I didn't forget anyone! Lots of people means lots of help with the babies. I was actually enjoyed my dinner! Thanks baby holders!
6:45 - Back to Kelsey and Justin's house. Pack up the stroller again and go for a walk with Kelsey, Lola, neighbor Kim, and McKenna. Kelsey and Kim hold babies so I can play with Lola and McKenna.
7:30 - Kim feeds Olivia, Justin feeds Owen. I relax!
8:30 - Both babies asleep in the car on the way home

Ok, so if you read that far, I'm impressed!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

2 month update!

2 months has come and gone, but the babies had their 2 month checkup today. Both babies are growing and healthy! Here are updated measurements:

Olivia -
Weight - 8 lbs 15 oz (10th percentile)
Height - 21.3 inches (14th percentile)

Owen -
Weight - 9 lbs 6 oz (8th percentile)
Height - 20.8 inches (2nd percentile)

We've got a short little boy and a tall little girl! Ok, so the 14th percentile for length isn't tall, but it seems that way with their other measurements! I can't believe they have almost doubled in size since birth! They are both eating well, and we are waiting patiently for them to sleep longer than 4 hour stretches. Well, trying to wait patiently.

We are off to McPherson for a quick trip this weekend. Then back to KC for Aunt Erica's bachelorette party! I know we say it every week, but we are already looking forward to the weekend!

Our busy weekend

We had a fantastic birthday/fathers day weekend. Here's a glimpse!

We went to Lawrence for haircuts with Ames!

Mimi's new double stroller! A great garage sale find! Lola thought it was more fun to play in it with her doll.

We went out for sushi for Mimi and My Birthdays. The babies were perfect!

Happy Fathers Day to our Dads, and to Justin! Here's my Dad with a sleepy Owen.

And finally, after baths and bottles, 2 sleepy babies in their new PJs. Thank you to Lola's Aunt Karri and Uncle Johnny for their matching jammies!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

The Flood

So the babies have made it through their first natural disaster.  Ok, that's probably overstating things a bit.  Our basement flooded in the middle of the night on Sunday.  We had about 6 inches of water backed up. The sump pump couldn't keep up. The twins slept completely through it. Lindsay took them over to Mimi and Papa's house.  We had to rip out the carpet in the guest room downstairs.  Hopefully we got it out before the mold could become a problem.  So far no signs of any problems.

But we are all good, looking forward to the weekend.

Visit to the Pediatrician

Today was the babies 1 month appointment! Yes, they are 7 weeks old, but we'll get back on a normal schedule soon. Both babies did great!

Owen - 8 lbs 10.3 oz (6%), 20.5 inches (2%)
Olivia - 8 lbs 4.5 oz (8%), 20.25 inches (4%)

The babies have really caught up on growth! If we compared them to 1 week old babies (since they were 6 weeks early), they would both be around the 50 percentile.

We've started our 3rd type of formula and are hoping that will calm Olivia's stressful eating.

My Mom and I did learn a lesson tonight - no outings after the babies get shots. We almost had to sprint out of the mall!

Already looking forward to the weekend,
Lindsay

First sleepover

We all headed to Aunt Erica's again last weekend, but this time we spent the night. The babies had their first sleepover while we headed to a hotel to catch up on some sleep. Thanks Grandma Schmidt for taking the overnight feedings!

First time in the pack n play

Yesterday, I drove back down to see Erica and go to her wedding dress fitting! Thank goodness for family, because the babies were loved by Aunt Kelsey, Cousin Lola, 2nd Cousin Emily, Great Aunt Debbie, Mimi and Papa while I was gone.

I know blog posts have been slow recently. We visit the pediatrician this afternoon and I am sure that will bring on some new info!
