Owen and Olivia's Playlist

O&O have quite the taste in music these days.  We've ventured away from toddler tunes and into mainstream music, and they are loving it.  Here is their current playlist (in random order).

The Fresh Beat Band - All Songs, Volumes 1 and 2
Fun. - "We are Young"
Fun. - "One Foot"
Mumford and Sons - "I Will Wait"
The Lumineers - "Ho Hey"
Glee Cast - "Firework"
Taylor Swift - "Stay Stay Stay"
Taylor Swift - "I knew you were trouble"
Polar Express Soundtrack - "The Polar Express"
Carly Rae Jepsen - "Call Me Maybe"
Smash Cast - "Brighter than the Sun"

Interesting variety, huh?

Inappropriateness

Is the title spelled correctly? I can't really spell check it, so I figure if 1. it isn't in fact a word or 2. if it is a word but spelled incorrectly, someone will point it out to me. (And by "someone" I mean Kelsey B)

But anyway, kids say the darnedest things. Here's what's happened since the last time we blogged about it, which was probably one of the last 3 posts, because we really don't blog very often, and when we do get around to it, it's usually to write inappropriate things our kids say.

"This is my personal bed." - Olivia (as opposed to what, the one she shares with Tyler, her boyfriend at school?)

"That's a Rhinosaur!" - Owen (a hybrid rhinoceros/dinosaur, obviously)

"No no Taylor Swift, we don't throw phones, that's not nice." Olivia (when she listens to a TS song that involves a hypothetical domestic argument in which TS throws her phone at a wall in a fit of rage)

"I have tater tots on my pants." - Olivia (they're really polka dots, but anytime we eat tater tots she usually does actually have tater tots on them, or really any other food, ever)

"Bye bye I'm going to Lowes." - Owen and Olivia (because they're actually undocumented day laborers looking for an honest day's wage)

Also Owen can read, or at least memorizes the books he likes, see video below:

Books books books books books book books books books books books books books from Justin Schmidt on Vimeo.

Snowed In

Today is day 3 of what has been some awesome snow storms for Kansas.  We got dumped on last Thursday and Friday - about 12 inches.  Daycare closed, which was unheard of.  We then got dumped on again last night, another 8 inches or so.  Daycare closed....again.  We are waiting to hear about daycare tomorrow, but the major school districts have already announced they are closed.

Let's just say this Mama is exhausted from being stuck at home with 2 toddlers all day.  But here are a few things we've done in the last snow-filled week!

Of course we played outside!

Daddy marched in the snow to create a path all the way around the yard to their playhouse

Had a Glee Karaoke party with Aunt Kelsey and Lola

Olivia dressed herself most days.  In this one, she had on 3 dancing skirts and then said "This one is not working very well.  It is not matching".

I even cleared the driveway today!  Shocking, I know!

Happy Valentines!

My little Valentines were very excited for school today.  So excited, that I forgot to take their picture.  So Ms. Amy saved the day and sent one right over....

And here are the adorable Valentines that Mimi made.  My photography is horrible, but you get the idea!

Home and Garden Show

We are always looking for a good weekend adventure, and today's was the Home and Garden Show.

They loved the tractors, fountains, and shed displays.  And were thrilled to buy new umbrellas.  They were well behaved almost the entire "adventure".

And then in true toddler fashion, they whined, cried, threw fits, didn't nap, didn't eat dinner, had potty accidents, and were a disaster the rest of the day.

Seriously, toddlers, you wear me out every single day.

Vying for their Momma's Heart

Olivia has finally discovered pop radio and has promptly determined that she loves Taylor Swift.  Her favorite song (and Lola's) is Trouble, and so all I hear in the car is "I knew you were trouble when you walked in......".  She knows almost every word and sings along.  She loves to blast it and dance around the kitchen.  While I'm definitely not a musician, I am a music lover and a dancing lover.

Owen is my little smarty pants.  He loves to learn, and remembers things that he is only told once.  While in the car, we passed a tanker truck, and he stated "The tanker truck is taking gasoline to the gas station.  It will go underground and then we'll put it in our car."  I really have no idea who told him that!  Tonight at Mimi and Papa's he found a Preschool Math workbook in a spare closet and sat down and worked through a few pages with Mimi.  He ran downstairs to me to tell me he had a math book and he was going to bring it home.  He kept telling me "I Love Math!".  I see a little Mathlete in our future.

It is amazing to see the little people O&O are growing into.  Their little personalities are so different.  It's fun to see little pieces of Justin and I in them.

I know I haven't blogged in a few weeks, and I'm sorry to be posting only one picture!  So here's just two more for you....my fifth birthday party, taking the Amtrak to Lee's Summit, just like we did a few weeks ago!
